Overgrown foundation plantings make a good house look neglected. Shrubs swallow the front windows, hollies grab the walkway, and ornamental trees throw low limbs across the drive. Pruning solves all of it — but only if it is done at the right time of year and with the right cut.

We hand-prune and shear to the plant's natural habit rather than rounding everything into green meatballs. Boxwood, holly, yew, spirea, barberry and arborvitae each get a different treatment. Spring-flowering shrubs such as forsythia, lilac and viburnum are pruned after they bloom so you do not lose next year's flowers; summer bloomers and evergreens are handled in late winter and early spring.

Badly overgrown shrubs often do not need removing. Rejuvenation pruning — taking a third of the oldest canes to the ground over two or three seasons — brings a leggy, hollow shrub back to full without the cost of ripping it out and replanting. We will tell you which plants are worth saving and which are past it.

On smaller ornamental and young shade trees we raise canopies for clearance over drives and walks, thin crossing and rubbing limbs, remove deadwood, and clean up storm damage. Large-tree and high-climb work is outside our scope; when a job needs a certified arborist and a bucket truck we say so and point you to one.

All debris is chipped or hauled and the site is blown clean. Most properties need one main pruning visit a year plus a light shaping pass, which pairs easily with a spring or fall cleanup.
